I remember having to hook my monitor up to a spare computer to reset the refresh rate to get it to work on the other computer.

Nope. The monitors stay blank because it's not getting a signal from the PC. The only time something will come up now is if I plug the monitor to the PC with a display adapter, but it'll just be an error message basically telling me to remove the adapter and turn the PC off and back on to fix the issue.
