That doesn't really make Trump look any smarter. I read the parenthetical as clarifying that he isn't suggesting that we shouldn't go to the Moon. Rather, it's not enough to only go to the Moon. He literally said "we shouldn't talk about going to the moon", if it's a stop on the way there, you're just gonna ignore it? Or what? You don't have to defend everything ffs You can't take anything Trump says literally. He just doesn't do literal meaning.
