Gay pride grew out of the fact that, for centuries gay people were told that they should be ashamed of who they are; their response was that no, they weren't going to be ashamed, they were gay and no one was going to tell them that they should feel lesser as a result.

That doesn't sound like a stupid reaction to me.

you do understand that not having shame, and having pride are two very different things right? pride is something you should have in your accomplishments, and unless we are suddenly taking the stance that being gay IS a choice, then its not an accomplishment.

and sure, you shouldnt feel lesser as a result. or greater as a result. youre supposed to just be a person and that is supposed to just be a stat about you. thats supposed to be your own private business and nobody is supposed to give a shit about it.

im 6'3". its not something im proud of. its not something im ashamed of. it is a stat. it is a stat like being a male, and being white, and being American, and having grey eyes. theyre not choices i made, theyre just things i was born with. i didnt accomplish anything to get any of them. gays didnt accomplish anything that turned them gay. thats not how it works.
