TopicWhy so many wrestlers commit suicide?

After listening to many podcasts with older wrestlers, it is easy to see why so many of them have such a hard life.

Life on the road sucks. It destroys any family time you may want to have. It is physically and mentally demanding. Some wrestlers would work 7 days a week for several months at a time. You are also always going from place to place with no downtime to just relax. That all leads into temptation.

Many of them hook up with loose women. You hear many stories about how STDs were super common on the road, or they would knock up some broad who would haunt them and destroy their home life.

Drug use was a part of the life for many. A lot of them did drugs to keep going, or to party up at first. Then they got hooked and needed to do they just to stay alive. Listening to Jake the Snake talk about it really put it into perspective. He drank and did so much coke to numb the pain. Not even trying to have fun by getting high. Same with people popping pills. They were always in so much pain.

The injuries that a lot of these guys got over the years border on crippling. Combined with many of them not having insurance or getting proper care because they would rather keep working, leads to ruined bodies.

Then you have to steroids. Many people did it just to keep up and try to get that look so they would get noticed. There is only 1 top guy and everyone wants to be him, so they would do whatever it took to be that guy. The damage that these drugs did would follow you for life.

After an entire career of getting beat up, wearing your body down, and drugging yourself half to death and having nothing to show for it can really fuck you up.
