I went into it with really low expectations but came out loving it. Not as good as the original, but it's unfair to compare. I thought Will Smith did a great job, and yeah - Naomi Scott as Jasmine is stunning. I enjoyed the extra backstory for Jafar too, even if the actor was a bit boring.

All of this, plus a couple of my own thoughts:

Loved this take on Iago, basically instead of trying to be Gottfried this version is a macaw that occasionally provides commentary and quips instead of holding full on conversations. Also loved the addition of Dahlia, and I appreciated that she wasn't added simply to be a love interest, but also a good friend, a voice of reason, and yes comic relief.

The movie did NOT completely blow its CGI budget on Friend Like Me as I suspected from that clip Smith posted, for whatever reason a lot of the effects were just missing from it. It was a serviceable adaptation to the original, and though the original version of both songs are better these were still fun to look at. The same could be said for the film as a whole. Does it need to exist? Nah, but I'm glad it does. I'd watch it again.
