The sentiment is "28,700 people should lose their jobs to show big companies they are not too big to fail and will be crushed for fucking up."

That's an equally awful sentiment, compounded by the ignorance of thinking anyone but the front-line employees will suffer if the company fails. The executives will give themselves bonuses for being the ones who actually drove the company into the ground, then live happily off their 7-8-figure bank accounts until one of their millionaire buddies gives them a new executive position in a different big company.
