"We're going to hit these goons so hard, words describing the severity of the impact will be left unexplored." He pointed at his own pistol. "One of you takes the bullet while I'm shooting the other, and we can take turns firing at these dudes. It's better if we hit three of you."

Danger? I said, glancing at my father and wondering if we had to try it. "Danger? You mean there's any need?"

"It's not a choice," he said, taking out a rifle-shaped box and packing it as neatly as he could in the back of a truck. He paused and reached back into a backpack. "This one. I know how we do it. The one you're going to take is called a 'bladed' shotgun. It's basically an open-fisted, double-barrelled, single-shot shotgun. The only difference between one of these guns, if one doesn't get to you, is its blade is longer in front of the barrel. It should be able to get through a headshot."

I nodded. The thought came to me in a moment and I smiled. In the old days in the Wasteland, bladed weapons were common. It was part of the job description, or, at least, part it wasn't, given that one was.
