It really probably isnt. If merely getting things for partnering up is prostitution then tons of marriages are just that. No one will tell you thats prostitution and it does not work conceptually or as per peoples usage of the word.

Prostitution is a woman getting something, providing the service, then no commitment. Whos to say the hunter gatherer of old did not simply partner up with the woman in some fashion?

This given, there is no end of things that could have come first. Most notably selling more mundane, necessary things.

There's no real evidence to support bartering until the rise of specialization which didn't happen until after the transition to an agrarian society.

I don't really count hunting / gathering that was just shit you had to do to live. The real jobs back then would be medicine, fighting, and primitive tribal politics. Prostitution would have been a way for women to get things from men to help care for their children but it's impossible to say what came first.

Just that it definitely wasn't agriculture.
