(completely forgetting about the 9th) Seems like a big ol' Chekhov's Gun- my guess is we use it to go full Persona 5 and steal the Lord Ruler's heart to revert him back to his pre-tyrant self. THAT made me wonder if maybe he didn't defeat the Deepness at all- it could perhaps have possessed/replicated/absorbed/whatevered him and been pulling the strings this whole time. We never did figure out what exactly Lord Renu's deal was, so that could even be something similar. Also we are going full daes des'mar/game of thrones with the intrigue, and it's fun! I figured we were going to escalate the Ellend/Kel conflict eventually, but Venture being in charge of atium is sure a step in that direction.
