SEASON 1 SPOILERS FOLLOW

Deborah is the divider between characters I like and characters I don't. In other words, if you can't even rank above an inanimate object, you're doing something terribly wrong. I initially liked Pogo. He was nicer to Vanya than anyone other than Grace upon her introduction (and later Leonard, but we see how that went). The show made it very obvious he was keeping secrets, but I thought it would be for some noble reasons rather than being loyal to a fault to a madman.

Luther was kind of a trash person almost the whole way through. Like Pogo he's ridiculously loyal to someone who manipulated and abused him, and was the only "child" who stood by his father's side long after all the others had left his crazy ass. Part of me wonders if this was out of some masochistic desire to stay in his good graces and forever be his "number One". The added dynamic with Allison only cheapens both their characters as she's clearly the only thing he cares about other than his father, and he'll go through ridiculous lengths to keep her safe.

While I recognize the show/graphic novel needed a catalyst like Hargreaves to set all events in motion they didn't even try to make this man likeable. The little nuggets of his past that indicate he too is a traveler and was aware of an oncoming apocalypse did not escape me. Maybe they will attempt to justify his actions next season, but as of right now he's horrible and not even a somewhat likeable villain like the Director or a tragic one like Vanya. I literally have nothing to say about Cha Cha or Leonard. Both are one note and dull and exist only to motivate characters more interesting than themselves.

Vanya and Allison really rose for me; I found their relationship believable and touching, and also kind of heartbreaking. Allison starts out as a bit of a bitch, but she is initially the only one willing to move on from Vanya exposing the family which kept her above most of her brothers for a short while. Her manipulative mind powers were initially a detriment to my liking of her until it was revealed why exactly she refused to use them in recent years, even under dire circumstances. Can you imagine having the same power and struggling not to use it to make your life significantly easier? I feel for her. She paid her dues when she lost her family so I can't fault her for being afraid of herself.

Vanya starts off rather boring, but once again this is through no fault of Ellen Page. Despite being "ordinary" and taking emotion suppressing supplements she was still somewhat interesting to me. When her abilities and personality finally began to show through I found her rather endearing. Then the flashbacks happened and oh dear she killed at least one nanny over a bowl of oatmeal. So was she a child psychopath always destined to cause the apocalypse or just a misguided youth Hargreaves thought he could tame? Either way I couldn't bring myself to hate her. The scene with the soundproof spiky room just made me feel even more sorry for her. She didn't ask to be that way and she essentially lost her only family twice!

Diego and Ben are alright. Diego's character is saved by his interactions with Klaus and Grace. Otherwise he would just be way too much for me. Diego can be incredibly impulsive which leads to many dumb decisions. Ben, from how seldom we actually see him, is fantastic. It's the little things like Klaus telling him to drop dead and him replying what a low blow that phrase is that make him shine in his few interactions. Grace and Agnes are sweet. Agnes and Hazel are great together.
