And I'm from a state where steady population decline has actively hurt the state. Hell, on a personal anecdotal level, the depressed property values took my dad's nearly $400k house and brought it down to $239k when it was sold. Housing falls into disrepair because even with depressed prices you still need people who can afford to live there and also afford to maintain it. Just because a population shouldn't increase exponentially doesn't mean a shrinking population is a good thing. It's often the opposite. Infrastructure crumbles, housing values plummet, new workers aren't available to replace an aging workforce. Younger generations are forced to do more with less, older generations live in squalor, etc.
