When we (in the U.S.) actually glorified gun culture, there were fewer shootings. Guns were patriotic. Part of everyday life. Most people had hunting guns. Pop had the Arisaka or Mauser he brought back as a war souvenir. Grandma had a .32 on her nightstand in case of intruders.
