They were just getting lucky with BABIP. The #s could tell you what they were doing was not sustainable, specifically because they hit too many groundballs. That is not a recipe for success in this day and age. Maybe for some players it is better, but with the smartness of shifting, and stronger defensive infields , you in general want to be hitting far less groundballs. But that is exactly Chili Davis's MO. And he will not adapt.
