Relying on critical hits for effective combat (aka rogue class) is overrated and basically a self-imposed handicap.

Not if you have a way to at least semi-reliably inflict crits on a regular basis.

That's just it. Part of the definition of critical chance is that it's not certain. It's not reliable. I'd rather strike with the certainty of doing a certain amount of damage instead of hoping this is gonna be one of those one-in-a-??? strikes.

I'll bring up Fallout: New Vegas as an example with its weapons that have a crit chance multiplier on them, and sneak attacks which were automatic crits. You could get a permanent base crit rate of 28% which along with other bonuses that aren't affected by crit multiplier, gets you guaranteed crits every time with Ratslayer, Two-Step Goodbye, or Embrace of The Mantis King!, 89% of the time with Pew-Pew, 75% of the time with Christine's CoS rifle, That Gun, or Lucky, 75% of the time with Nuka Breaker, 65% of the time with YCS-186 and Gauss Rifle, and 61% of the time with Li'l Devil, Light Shining In Darkness, Paciencia, Gobi Campaign Scout rifle, etc.

Some of those crit weapons are indeed pretty handy to have if you get them early enough (luke Lucky), but by the time I get most of the other weapons, I can get stuff that works reliably all the time. Also, those crit weapons don't take mods, and whenever possible, I really prefer a scope/silencer/bigger mag on it.

Ratslayer is available almost as early as Lucky, comes with all three of those upgrades, and is the best gun that fires 5.56mm rounds. It's not the rifle you're going to pull out for deathclaws, but it's great for taking down lesser enemies with a cheap and plentiful round.

Paciencia is available for sale in Novac, it has the same magnification looking down the sight as a scope does, and deals as much crit damage as the anti-materiel rifle does. It also weighs less than the AMR, and fires cheaper, more common ammo. It deals vicious hits of damage loaded with hollow points or soft points, enough to one-shot deathclaws with sneak attacks.
