Relying on critical hits for effective combat (aka rogue class) is overrated and basically a self-imposed handicap.

Not if you have a way to at least semi-reliably inflict crits on a regular basis.

That's just it. Part of the definition of critical chance is that it's not certain. It's not reliable. I'd rather strike with the certainty of doing a certain amount of damage instead of hoping this is gonna be one of those one-in-a-??? strikes.

I'll bring up Fallout: New Vegas as an example with its weapons that have a crit chance multiplier on them, and sneak attacks which were automatic crits. You could get a permanent base crit rate of 28% which along with other bonuses that aren't affected by crit multiplier, gets you guaranteed crits every time with Ratslayer, Two-Step Goodbye, or Embrace of The Mantis King!, 89% of the time with Pew-Pew, 75% of the time with Christine's CoS rifle, That Gun, or Lucky, 75% of the time with Nuka Breaker, 65% of the time with YCS-186 and Gauss Rifle, and 61% of the time with Li'l Devil, Light Shining In Darkness, Paciencia, Gobi Campaign Scout rifle, etc.
