But if we're talking "real life" stuff, the mail carrier I sub for at the post office retired yesterday, so now there's an open position. I'm going to try to apply for it, but I have no real control over whether I get it or not, despite the fact that I know that mail route better than anyone currently employed by the post office. When they post an opening, the slot gets filled by the person with the most seniority, period, and I only have 2.5 years.
