conservatives alone for the most part except they may do a hot take and say trump is stupid too

are they really moderates and why are there so many of them

[neo]liberals/democrats, despite being traditionally open-minded, grew so adamantly self-righteous that they refused to question or debate anything they believed or advocated

meanwhile, the massive leftward overton window shift of 2011-2016 has made moderates look conservative by comparison

following the bush era, neocons left conservatism in smoldering ruin, and during the obama years conservatives were really trying to figure themselves out again - which entailed an increasing amount of lowkey engagement with (and criticism by) moderates, rightist elements, and even some leftist elements

so basically, there's quite a bit of mutual understanding between all those groups - moderates, conservatives, leftists - and if you read their critiques of the [neo]liberal zeitgeist in the wake of the '16 election, they all had a far more intimate understanding of the state of affairs than [neo]liberals/democrats, whose broadsiding came as a total shock

unfortunately it seems many moderates have had a bit of a marriage of convenience with the younger neocons since they both hate trump - neocons because he's philosophically at odds with them, moderates because it's trendy i presume - meaning we run the risk of another bush-style republican in the future, which literally nobody outside the beltway ****ing wants

tl;dr: moderates spent years criticizing conservatives, but gave a blind eye to liberals, who they've more recently been taking on in the hopes of bringing them back to earth
