I skimmed through the thread and it looks like no one answered your question about what anti-virus to use (I could have missed it though). Windows Defender (which is already installed and then activated once you remove/deactivate Norton) is fine for the vast majority of users. Other solutions might offer more protection, so you might want to consider something else if you often visit websites that might be a bit sketchy. However, nowadays most viruses are installed "willingly" by the user. Paying close attention to what you're downloading and the websites you're using will be more effective than any antivirus. You should read articles on how to browse the internet safely because knowledge will be your best defense.

Also, Chrome and Firefox are both excellent browsers. People who are hard advocating their browser of choice have very personal reasons for choosing that browser that probably don't apply to you at the moment.
