We call it pop too in the UK or at least in my city. I understand the soda thing but calling all pop/soda "coke" is a strange one too me when that is just one type of pop/soda.


"Coke" as a generic term is definitely a thing. I remember hearing it frequently when I was a kid in the 80s, but not so frequently anymore. I do have some hillbilly relatives who use "coke" as a generic term for all soft drinks.
