ECW Big Apple Blizzard Blast
Wk. 4, 1/96

Pre-show: Taz d. Stetson (D; Taz not suited to gimmick, crowd didn't like Stetson)

Too Cold Scorpio faces the rookie Mark Henry in a battle of pride to kick us off. Henry's power avails him in the early going, but Scorpio is able to wear him down (possibly a bit more than the booking wanted) and put him away in the end. Still, a solid debut for the youngster, unless you're one of those internet "smark" weirdos. (D+) Jimmy Del Ray hobbles out to the ring, still selling his wounds from a couple weeks back. Before he can get a promo going, out come the Bad Crew! They lay him out again. (F+)

Chavo Guerrero Jr. challenges Mikey Whipwreck next for the TV Title! It's a reasonably good back and forth match...out come the Gangstas! Mustapha Saed distracts the ref while New Jack lays out the champ! Chavo doesn't seem to have a problem with winning this way, and is able to pick the bones and win! (D+) The Gangstas and Chavo put the boots to Whipwreck! Cactus Jack barrels down the ramp to make the save and drive them off, but the damage has been done and a message sent. (D)

Rey Misterio Jr.'s loan contract is almost up with ECW, but before he goes, he puts one one hell of a match with Bam Bam Bigelow. Bam Bam finally puts away the kid to thunderous applause. (B; great chem) RVD faces Perry Saturn next for no special reason- a solid match, if a bit flat after Bigelow/Rey. RVD gets a significant win. (C-) Another throwaway match sees Sabu roll through Damien Stone with a few neat spots. (C)

Backstage, the Pitbulls are going after the Flock! Raven's not around, and without him, Meanie and Richards fall to the Pitbulls. (E) Next is Shane Douglas, accompanied by William Alfonso of the Network, challenging Sandman for the ECW Title! Jericho makes his presence felt here as well in short order- both he and Alfonso continuously plauge Sandman, preventing him from building up too much momentum. Even Sandman's trusty cane can't quite even up the numbers game, and Douglas is able to secure a win and the title! (C-) Heyman is furious at this miscarriage of justice. Alfonso explains again that the Network is bringing ECW into a new era, with Douglas now at the helm, but Heyman tells Alfonso where the Network can stick their new era! (D+; Heyman's face turn goes pretty well and his Anti-Establishment gimmick gets Above Average.)

Dreamer and Raven go Hardcore for the main event, and it looks like Dreamer pulls something early on while battering Raven repeatedly with a chair. The rest of the match is a bit off, but still a solid outing. Meanie and Richards are AWOL after being beaten down earlier, but Beulah is still in Raven's corner, and she's got a can of mace! Raven holds Dreamer for her....but Dreamer escapes, and Raven gets maced instead! DDT onto a chair! 1....2....3! (D+; great chem; Dreamer sustains a Strained Triceps Tendon; Raven was high)
