Why do the usual suspects just like to pretend context doesnt exist? Were in a world where a bucket of chicken can be offensive!..yes. Sometimes people use it to be offensive and hurtful. Thats where context comes into play.
The problem is the context is subjective. Bitch enough about it, and the context itself no longer matters. "A public official should know better!"
Prime example being that pro-Obama commentator who still got canned for saying "cotton pickin' " despite it being an incredibly common southern phrase.
It's not a mystery why people are bringing up watermelon and fried chicken completely out of the blue in a conversation about black people.
That example is obvious. What isn't obvious is that cop who put a load of trash in a tree, one of which was a chicken bucket, and he was immediately fired.
Being from the south, it seemed like a blatant diss on "trailer trash" rednecks.
That's an example of subjective context.
That wasn't context-less either. An officer shouldn't be displaying such outward bias against people in the community that he's supposed to be working.
