My limited anecdotal evidence is positive. A good friend had it and recommended it, and as far as I know his is still going at 6+ years. We've replaced the filters inside the drawer and a foam around the sphere but otherwise no issues at all. My sister bought one on our advice 3-4 years ago. She didn't clean it though and the cats stopped using it because stuff will accumulate over time, so she just went back to a regular litter instead. Entirely on her there. She did clean it eventually and it the cats resumed using it. I think it's still working fine now, though I think she may have mentioned an issue the last time we spoke. Not sure, I didn't follow up on it.

Sometimes better to be safe than sorry with something with such an integral mechanical aspect for sure though.

Isn't cleaning it just wiping the inside once a month or so?

Yes and no. Wiping alone won't get it all usually, so we use a hose and let it drip dry over the course of 2-3 days every couple months.

my litter box cost 10 dollars

How often do you have to deal with the litter? Sift once every day or two? I just change a bag once a week.
