that's interesting because while i agree that seems to be the trend, i feel this season in particular has gone to extra lengths to explain stuff up front, multiple episodes in advance (see elizabeth's plotline on vuku a week before the merge boot episode)

and for what its worth, the season and its characterization as a whole have been a lot better for it

I was actually thinking the opposite, strangely enough. Elizabeth had a little ripple prior to her boot, but then she goes. Then John goes completely out of nowhere. Then Dan had a ripple of screentime before he's targeted and out. Then Alec goes in one episode. Then Carl goes after showing up as a target only two hours prior. And then Gabby's story arc concludes rather abruptly. Christian is the only long-term arc I feel that has reached its conclusion since the merge.
