Topic	Are there any civilizations in history where WOMEN oppressed MEN?

If the claim that men and women are truly "equal" is valid, then statistically speaking, shouldn't there be an just as many civilizations where women oppressed men as there are of men oppressing women? If we all evolved equally, why do men historically get the upper hand in terms of authority?
