"In this sequel, we find out that the machines conveniently sent another killer robot back in time to kill the Conners (and Future John also sends a reprogrammed terminator back to protect his kid self), this time to the 1990s. The world somehow hasn't ended yet despite armageddon being 'a few years off' in the first movie.
All the robots are supposedly sent back from the same point of time in the future, which means right in this exact place we had two robots that both look like Arnold, one of which was apparently completely reprogrammed in the short time they had before they destroyed the time travel facility, and this new model that goes straight from analog robotics to fucking alien nanotechnology or whatever (there is actually even worse bullshit in 2029, but for the sake of sanity lets try to keep the stupidity to just these two movies). If Skynet has this advanced terminator all along why not just send it to the 1980s and y'know, win. Or better yet, send both of them. Or any number of much more logical situations this supposed hyper-intelligent AI should able to think of.
A lot of the plot revolves around the heroes trying to stop the rise of the machines in the present, despite how a success in this endeavor would cause the complete paradoxical collapse of the space-time continuum due to how John's father came back from the post-apocalyptic future to fuck his mom.
Now we must talk about the T-1000, who is neither cool or believable in any way, and is not even very scary. It's just a lame attempt to try and one up the previous movie by making an 'even more dangerous' terminator. The original model was a gritty and terrifying piece of work whose unstoppable presence radiated out of the screen, and he didnt need bad CGI or random shapeshifing to do it.
So what do we get here instead? Arnold is now the toy of an idiot kid who makes him spout lame 90's one-liners for laughs while everyone gets chased around by Oozy McSilversurfer.
Yes, we know that he will 'beh bahck', but considering what we got here (not to mention the movies to follow), he really should have stayed gone." ~Karo
