I think it works better if you have a bunch of popular options and the other for onlymlesser known. But thats harder with so many fast food places... You really only have so many popular options, plus you could logically combine a few of the somewhat popular ones. But you dont really get a true count. Lots of people vote without posting. You could easily get 100 others for all those lesser known ones that werent combined. And it could be 75% of them for the same lesser known restaurant. Or almost all of them could be different. What happens when you combine 2, and people lots of people vote for it, but only like so many people say which one?
