I liked the part where they went into Cloud and Sephiroth changing through the compilations and KH which may have affected their popularity while Tifa and Aerith relatively stayed the same (although I felt Aeriths personality got radically changed in the compilations). That may explain the rather shocking result between Tifa and Sephiroth. True, you never forget your first love. However, that first love staying the same as she always as while the idolized anti-hero being butchered throughout the compilations had a lot to factor into this.
