The first one was meant more towards the unfortunate implications aspect. And TBH if you think it's bad in Back to the Future, just wait until you see its sequels, or Forrest Gump. Just do yourself a favor and never watch another Robert Zemeckis film in your life ever again.

Of course I've seen those films, plus another handful of Zemeckis films. And let me tell you, Forrest Gump has a lot of room for great discussion and subversion of stereotypes and a wicked satirical criticism of American society. This movie lacks any and all of that. It's a Dreamworks film. I also much prefer BTTF2 to BTTF1.

Also, if Back to the Future lacks nuance, please explain to me why it was very deservedly IMO nominated for a Screenplay Oscar. A sci-fi film getting an Oscar nomination for its writing is pretty much a Wonder of the World.

A) It helps that the really weighty scripts were all adaptations that year.
B) Out of Fucking Africa won like a bajillion awards that year. It was a light year.
C) Literally Cocoon won an Oscar for acting. It was a REALLY light year.
D) If I based all of my opinions of Academy Awards, it would be like basing my opinions of games on Let's Plays.
