Dentist have kind of backed off of the flossing in the past few years because other than use it to get that annoying piece of food stuck between your teeth or to look good recent research finds there is no hard evidence in its effectiveness. So don't mumble out a lie when they ask if you floss but do keep your mouth clean and the junk out from between your teeth.

Where do people come up with this nonsense

Ineffective flossing is ineffective. A lot of people don't know how to do it correctly but its one of the best things you can do for your gums.

You want to brush up and away from the gum line and get a c around your teeth while flossing. It is also important to brush for at least 1.5 minutes, that is one of the biggest positives for electric toothbrushes.
