Moon both follows in the footsteps of its predecessors by examining human responses to unusual imagined futuristic circumstances and delves into that old science fiction standby theme of investigating the nature of humanity itself. However, it also has room to criticize the current direction of humanity with the cynical observation that even with supposedly noble interests and armed with inventive solutions, humans will still find ways to cut ethical corners and damage their fellow man for the sake of economic efficiency. This film is a deliberately slow trip, recalling familiar old tones while also adding its own unique touches such as the brilliant subversion of the evil AI. Moon is the complete sci fi experience - it takes the issues of today and makes them the issues of tomorrow. It pessimistically shines a light on the utterly heinous actions of large corporations while not hammering home the concept in a hamfisted way. The script is so beautifully sparse, leaving so much implicit rather than explicit and allowing Sam Rockwell to fill the gaps with his performance. And when you leave things unsaid but understood, the viewer is able to imagine the world in a more meaningful way. The ideas of this movie really drive at the nature of humanity, whether on a micro level in the study of original identity and the nature of the value of life in a world where you can be robbed of the most basic human properties engrained since the dawn of our species, or on a macro level, where the study of corporate inhumanity and the ability to Halliburton and take advantage of unaware victims held under the iron grasp of a way-of-life-threatening catastrophe resonates clearly. All in all, it's a moving, heart-wrenching story with a beautiful ending that hints at just enough reality while still keeping its firmly planted in a different world. I couldn't ask for a better film to top my list." ~scarlet

"An astronaut on a lunar energy farm ends up involved with strangeness when a vehicular accident results in him sharing the colony with a man who looks just like him.
The air of mystery is top notch throughout the first half of the movie as they struggle to find out what the hell is going on. The two clones each have a distinct personality despite their identical appearance and all the interactions between them are great. Of special note is GERTY, the base computer, who redeems AIs in a big way after HAL's actions famously put them in a bad light.
It is well written, always engaging, and will keep you entertained all the way through, and is a welcome addition to the sci-if genre." ~Karo

"I never thought a movie about a guy stuck on a space station with a robot and a clone of himself could be so good, but here we are. I loved how the twists came slowly and gradually, but it never felt tedious or slow. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was discovered next. What has happened to this man is heartbreaking and I legitimately felt awful for him. That kind of connection is hard to make with a viewer, but Moon pulls it off.

Traviss Opinion: IMDB parents guide told me there was a fair bit of language in the movie so I had Travis skip it. And while they were right, I probably could have gotten away with letting him watch this. The subject matter got heavy, but I doubt it would have bothered him. I might let him in on the rewatch." ~Stifled
