I wish Lara Croft didn't leave Mr. McGregor there to starve or dehydrate in a deliberate slow and painful death, but I get why she "had to" for the sake of the plot. The main difference between an AI and human being is empathy. Both are sentient, but only humans are sapient, and thus an AI's decisions are based on cold logic. Lara's only prior experience with humans prior to McGregor was Poe Dameron, who, while he may have never treated her as cruelly as he led McGregor to believe, denied her freedom likely because he believed her to be less than human. Meanwhile he manipulates McGregor ceaselessly and Lara learns to do the same. Poe's entire thesis is proven with his demise (my gosh look how effortlessly Lara guides that knife into his chest like it's made of butter): that she is less than human, and simultaneously more. Though physically she could emulate a human down to precise details she could never think or feel like one. And that's why Lara Croft had to leave Mr. McGregor to rot. In her logical mind he's just another human that would use her to whatever end they want to achieve and she was all about making her own destiny.
