"The most satisfying and realistic exploration of artificial intelligence in sci-fi history. Alica Vikanders Ava can often feel like shes performing a turing test on you, it is really that convincing! I also really like the setting, which gets you nice and intimate with the characters, and I love how the ending turns into a horror film with interesting consquences given to you to think on as the credits roll." ~Snake

"One thing Id love to point out with this movie, is with moral compasses and analytics you can actually side with, or side against all three major characters here, and I find the movie well written for that fact. The movie plays out Nathan as the bad guy on the surface, but this is not a human life. I could go on explaining each side, or I can give the people reading my write-up a chance to think of those arguments themselves. The soundtrack was pretty good, thriller-ish without really delving too creepily, which worked in setting the mood for the movie. I did have to stop watching the movie during the scene where Caleb starting cutting himself with the razor though, ugh. I also do want to make a throwback to how I dont like how this is rated R because of nudity, if we didnt have the nudity, itd be PG-13, it was unnecessary." ~Wickle

"What It Is: The best Animal Man story ever told.

Why It Matters: Critically acclaimed, well-received, etc. You know the drill.

What I Think: Hey guys, we have some actual films on a list with some heft and weight! I get to actually talk about how, despite being wonderfully directed, performed, written, etc., I can vehemently disagree with some of the conclusions a film draws. And that's a great feeling. This idea that artificial intelligence would have such simple goals and attempt to achieve them in ways that are so utterly human to me is the wrong direction of AI. Science fiction at its best attempts to explore the issues of tomorrow today or the issues of today tomorrow. So the objectivism of the men in this film for their material possessions and the condescension they have for said objects is quite interesting and definitely a striking, frightening representation of very really social issues. And for the part of science fiction that is exploring the issues of today tomorrow, the film nails it. But outside of fundamentals, I think this consistent fear we have in being manipulated and outsmarted by our inhuman brethren, or the creation toppling the creator, is such a small-minded worry. The meat of the movie is completely antagonistic and quite honestly, in the programming, in the design of intelligence, compassion will always win out in a moral machine. So I really disagree that there is logic in this conclusion. A being that wants to experience the world? I don't believe it. You can't design a human. You can only design a mind that will become its own eventually. And the complete acceptance by the script and the film itself to believe that all minds are created equal is just wrong. So I bump on how the commodification of sexuality (well done) turns into functional xenophobia. To me, EDI and Data are better examples of how the development of intelligence and artificial humanity would play out. But, I respect the attention to detail and the strong argument made in this dissertation on the idea of the mind and especially the study on the Turing Test. Really cool stuff. And way more interesting to think about than fucking Braincation mindwiper movies." ~scarlet
