Pasta with Brussels sprouts

You can get fresh Brussels sprouts cheap at Costco or Sam's Club (like $4 for a 2 pound bag).

Trim the dirty bits off the end of the sprouts if necessary, then cut them in half vertically (so each half has part of the stem). Chop half an onion as well.

Melt a stick of butter (1/2 cup) in a large pan, then add the sprouts and onion. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper and saute just until the sprouts are soft, stirring frequently. Do not overcook!

While the sprouts are cooking, begin preparing a package of pasta according to the directions.

When the pasta is done, drain it but save about 1/4 cup of the water, which you should add to the sprouts just before they are done.

When you can bite into a sprout and it is soft but still with a bit of resistance (al dente), toss the sprouts and the drained pasta together and serve immediately.

(If you overcook Brussels sprouts, they will start to release sulfur compounds which stink and taste terrible. This is the reason most people "hate" Brussels sprouts, because they've always had them cooked to death.)
