Did it w/ firefox, the tutorial was for Chrome (minor adjustments were needed to the steps), not sure if it works for other browsers. Basically, you open the video post in its own tab, then before hitting play, do a right click on the screen, choose "Inspect Element" and click on the network tab. Play the video until you get a mp4 or other video file extension in the list (you can sort by Type to make it easier if it's a long list), then right click on that row and choose to open in a new tab. The tab should now have just the video and nothing else, and you can right click on it and save the video. Sadly I just don't have the time to archive many videos, didn't think to save shortcuts to most of them or anything and the tumblr shut down is too soon. But hey, I learned something... ...
