minor ST spoilers: The alien initially is horrifying when it's one sole monster, but when you add in a whole lot of them, it makes each one individually much less scary. Same thing happened with the Demogorgons in Stranger Things.

I mean it's no big surprise that you'd like Aliens > Alien if you're in it for the action, just like it's no surprise to like Alien > Aliens if you're in it for the horror

Exactly this. I'm much, much more of a horror/suspense person than an action person, and atmosphere also counts for a lot for me, and I totally agree on both the Alien and Stranger Things counts. (That's not to say there aren't plenty of action movies out there I love - Die Hard and the Mad Max series, for instance.)
