"Aliens, there's a lot of them this time because since one of them was scary, hundreds of them would be even MORE scary, right? Actually, that's not how things work at all.
The tense encounter between a crew and an alien organism has now been replaced by obnoxious space marines who tear through scores of xenomorphs like they were cheap video game monster fodder. Indeed, with how what was once a terrifying character reduced to nothing more than a Zerg Rush, we have to introduce the Xenomorph Queen, because maybe if they made one of them reaaaaaallly big, it would still be frightening (it is not really).
Ripley also is there on the mission, even though there is literally no rational reason for her to come along other than being the main character. Speaking of the marines, you'd think that the company would be able to afford to hire better soldiers then this group of numbskulls, god help them if they didn't have this diminutive civilian girl to constantly tell them to stop doing something stupid or to quit crying for their mommies.
So much about the plot is unbelievable rubbish that exists solely to force the stage for humans being mauled by toothy extraterrestrials, such as them getting marooned on the planet because they literally left not a single person on board the orbital spacecraft to rescue them if need be. Or the xenomorphs being able to efficiently hunt down the humans through walls in this gigantic industrial complex, yet didnt notice the little girl hiding in the air conditioning for weeks. Not to mention the last-second escape from the most meticulously controlled nuclear meltdown ever.
Hollywood is littered with unwise sequels to classic movies, and while there was potential for a good followup to Alien this was sure as hell not the way to do it." ~Karo
