Had to take a sick day today, so I sat on the couch and watched all three episodes of the Detonator Orgun OAV ... on ye olde Central Park Media / U.S. Manga Corps DVD. I had a chuckle at reading the notice on the back on the case that says your PC has to have at least Windows '95 in order to correctly read the DVD-ROM.

Orgun dates to '91, but it is a very '80s show in look and feel. Obari directed, but mercifully did not do the character design, and it looks very similar to (the very '80s) Hades Project Zeorymer. Impressive soundtrack, courtesy of Hirusawa (i.e. the Berserk guy). Healthy amounts of violence, nudity, explosions, and flashing lights. Good companion anime to Tekkaman Blade, but with a bigger budget (... and a better director).

Picked Orgun because I have been getting back into Super Robot Wars (due to the announcement of SRWT being released in 2019), and one of the games I have been playing is SRWW (DS), featuring both Orgun and Tekkaman. Also started a fresh play of 2nd SRW OGs with the translated script, and it offers a whole different experience than just winging it like I did when the game first came out.

All in all, feeling very nostalgic. There is plenty of modern anime that I like to watch (e.g. Goblin Slayer), but nothing can truly duplicate the old stuff for me. It's hard to even really put a word to what's missing.

No one's trying to censor your games!

Reading the comments to that (very short) article made my stomach lurch.
