I feel that saying that is different than "NOT ORIGINAL THAT WAS DONE TWENTY YEARS EARLIER IN BLAHHHH" because that case sounds more like coincidence or that maybe that person wasn't aware of the "original" movie. But usually with these book movies, it straight up says it in the title card or at the start of the credits.

Because a movie based on a book can still be original, especially when it comes to visual and auditory elements.
