"A riveting space epic about humanity searching for a new home after an unexplained blight begins destroying all plant life in the world.
There are three distinct sections of the movie, the first begins with a the protagonist as a simple farmer on earth with his family that establishes who he is and what he is fighting for. The second is the space voyage to a new galaxy, the problems they face and how they overcome them. The final part is the strange ending, which ties together all sections of the movie into a beautiful little space-time bow.
Though it is nearly three hours long it never wears out its welcome or seems drawn out. Every part of the movie feels like it deserves to be there and there are always characters doing big things and wrestling with big decisions, and it further cements Nolan as one of the greatest directors of all time." ~Karo

"My favorite of Christopher Nolan's movies, this is a 2001-esque sci-fi tale of mythic proportions. Nolan is a bit of a hit-or-miss filmmaker for me I don't think any of his movies are bad, per se, but some of them certainly get overhyped. This definitely isn't one of the overhyped ones. Anchored by Matthew McConaughey in a career-best performance, along with the always-terrific Jessica Chastain, this is an obvious labor of love that seems to rub a lot of people the wrong way, between its length and its blunter scenes of philosophizing. But whenever I watch this (and I saw it three times when it was in theaters), its minor structural flaws don't end up mattering to me. The high drama is perfectly executed and I fall for it completely every time. It's atmospheric, it captures the enormity and horror of space, and addresses a lot of lofty themes without necessarily offering definitive answers it doesn't have. Whether it's the nightmare fuel of the tidal wave planet (a scene that's somehow not undercut by that adorable robot skittering about throughout), the melodrama of a stranded Matt Damon gone insane, or the Kubrickian weirdness of the bookcase finale, I can't help myself from losing myself in all of it. I'm willing to buy that these characters, in this situation, would talk and act like this, thanks to a strong cast who're clearly invested in the material. Enough of the science is clearly well-researched that I don't really care if some of the minor details fall apart under close scrutiny. It's one of my favorite movies of recent years, and it's becoming one of my favorite movies, period." ~KBM

"A really good movie that I realize runs one of two ways. Either the subject completely interests you and the movie is possibly one of the greatest of all time, or the subject goes over your head and it can range from only a great movie to maybe even boring for how long it is. I really loved the movie despite not being big on space exploration, or really this type of science anyway, but theres plenty of good scenes, and the subject of what Connor did was really cool." ~Wickle
