The problem with murder is that you have to prove the killing was premeditated, it clearly wasn't so she will get found not guilty of murder. If they left it as manslaughter, she would have easily been found guilty and ended up serving her time.

I don't know my neighbors on a personal level. I just know their names. chill out dude

EDIT: Also, it's important to know because if she had known him as a friend or a significant other rather than just some random neighbor that makes it harder to prove she was just confused and not actually premeditated.
