I don't see it as sudden to be honest? There has always been general anti-jerrymandering sentiment but most people in the nation didn't know what it was. Also we've seen a steep rise in efforts of voter suppression since they voting rights act was weakened which is causing rising frustrations. I feel like people are more aware and this is a response to demand from the base.
