I had fun with mine but the damn thing had some serious fundamental flaws

It was unbelievably slow to even open the Settings menu, let alone most games. The Gamepad couldn't be purchased separately, so if you broke yours, you were at the mercy of Nintendo's tech support. And it was expensive to have repaired.

They also did a ridiculous thing where virtual console games from your Wii could be ported over, but you had to pay one or two dollars to "upgrade" them so you could launch them from Wii U's own launcher, or you could just keep them in Wii mode. But not everything got ported over, and no WiiWare games got ported, so you had to access Wii mode anyway for one game or another if you had a substantial library. So it could take a crazy amount of time to go from having the system off to getting you into a Wiiware game, considering how long it takes for the Wii U to start up, and then for Wii mode to start, and then for your game to start. It was just uncomfortable and terribly designed

There were good and bad aspects of the Wii U, but yeah, it was poorly designed.
