Yes there's that too but a lot of dark aspects of fantasy monsters and fantasy in general have been watered down so much. It's why Game of Throwns is or maybe was so popular. Same with Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Most fantasy stories back in the day didn't have happy endings. The heroes rarely win and if they did it was a Pyrrhic victory.
