Something happening to their newborn. And if he did give the cat to his mom, its always possible that they go to either visit the cat. Or they go over to get the cat use to the baby until they can bring the cat home. Everyone is different and he probably weighed the pros and cons and decided. Just like every pet is different. Maybe the cat wouldnt have gotten use to the baby. Or wouldve be trying to scratch the baby and stuff...
