Within reason, I could agree. Like, animal torture at an early age? Cause for concern. A boy wanting a cute purple dinosaur face paint tattoo from one of those booths they have at park, or whatever (like my son did)? No biggie.

Obviously, I'm not talking about when they actively endanger others. We are talking about fashion, here. No one is going to drop dead if a little boy wears a pink dress.

This can be a double edged sword, and not work out well. Depending on the circumstance, that is. In an ideal world, I couldn't agree more. In an ideal world, the issue of bulling would never rear it's ugly head, anyway.

You have little control over how other parents raise their kids, and some a practically bred to be bullies.

Some people just aren't built for the "this is who I am, deal with it!" personality.

I got bullied the shit out of for having a paralyzed dad. He had a stroke when I was 7 that left him an invalid. Kids gave me hell for it. My attitude and self acceptance of it didn't do shit to stop it, and it hurt like hell. I kinda wish I could have hid it.

I'm not saying it will stop bullies. You can't stop bullies. Realistically, though, if you teach kids to be manipulated in order to hide from them, they are just continuing a cycle that will cause bullying to continue. I didn't say 'ignore them and they will go away'. What I'm saying is that it's more important to teach kids to be strong, self-confident, and comfortable with who they are, so that when they have to deal with those people, they will be better equipped to do so.

Telling them to hide who they are is telling them to be afraid and ashamed and they are still going to get bullied anyway. It has nothing to do with an ideal world. Even in our world, it's better they be who they are and learn to be strong and confident, than they hide who they are and are miserable from both that and the bullying.
