I just can't wait to get on the road again

That's right, it's been long enough since I've done one of these, it's past due. If you don't know/remember what this is, a few years ago I set out on the task of playing every numbered Final Fantasy, in order. When I started this little project, FFXIV A Realm Reborn was out, and the Heavensward expansion and FFXV weren't released yet. Over the course of a year, I played every Final Fantasy, from I to XIII-2. I didn't play XI or XIII-3. I might play XI one day, XIII and especially XIII-2 were so bad I didn't bother with 3. Don't really want to, anyway. This time I'm playing Final Fantasy XV: Road Trip Simulator 2016.

Before we get into that, I've played FFXIV every day for a couple of years now, but I don't make topics about it, because nobody would care. I can say that I have played Dragoon way more than I care to admit, and I have cleared many many raids, and I have every single Job and gathering/crafting class max leveled. Recently got into tanking, and I quite enjoy it. I don't really like Paladin, it's a bit too simple for my tastes, but Dark Knight and Warrior are tons of fun.

Anyway, FFXV! Where to begin. I started out with the tutorial, and found the game unresponsive. I started over and tried the lore tutorial, went up to a painting... and nothing happened after the first text box, and I couldn't exit. Off to a great start already! So I killed the process and relaunched the game, and now it works fine. So how is it? I heard it was unfinished, and it feels like it. The map feels empty and needlessly large. NPCs are very rough looking. The art design is a bit uninspired. Music is ehhhh. There were like 4 cutscenes that seemed to have nothing to do with each other, it feels like it takes 30 minutes to get going then you start hitting dogs with sticks. Combat is... weird. You just hold a button to attack, and when a prompt comes up you hold a different button to defend. But sometimes it doesn't defend. Sometimes there's no prompt. Sometimes you can tell one of the backstreet boys to shoot a gun or something and you might be able to follow it up with another attack. Idk maybe there's more to it later.

Maybe it's just off to a rocky start, maybe like XIII when the game really gets going it's not so bad. I'll give it a fair shot.

And, no, I DON'T hate Final Fantasy. I love Final Fantasy. pretty much every game before 10, excluding 2 and 8 are masterpieces, and some of the most influential and important games ever made. It's just, barring XIV, recent FF games have been bloated messes that stray too far from what makes FF amazing.
