Gaslighting is usually a concerted effort to make someone question their memory, view of the world, etc. to make them more susceptible to your will. It's most often seen in relationships. Someone will lie and manipulate to make their partner feel dependent on them and isolate themselves from friends and family, through things like minimizing their partner's concerns, making them always feel at fault for things, or purposefully trying to cast dispersions on agreements made, making up promises, etc. I don't think it really applies to what TC is talking about. If I say its a good thing that Trump lowered my taxes (because taxation with representation is still theft) then it means simply that. No one is trying to manipulate or make you question wether or not hes actually a good person, theyre just stating that they pay less taxes.
