I also didn't like how helpless Spider-Man seems in trying to contact the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. And how convenient it was that all of those groupers were unavailable so Spider-Man had to find a way to deal with it himself! I think this is one of the best aspects of the story, honestly. I see Peter as the guy who steps up because he has to. Great power, great responsibility. By trying to pass the buck to three other groups first it seems like he is being forced to step up.
