Gloating.

Oh dude you have no idea. So many people told me I was going to lose, including the teacher who runs the club.

For two weeks I strived to win, I was the first person to put all my posters up. I spent countless lunch periods/class time to visit as many students as possible to record their concerns and ideas. I invested at least $50 on stickers and candy to pass out. I spent hours on instagram and snap chat asking as many people as possible to give me shout outs causing nights with little sleep. This is unrelated, but our school has a polo shirt uniform. I have a building tie collection so I try to were a tie at least once a week (Friday Tie day!), I also wore a tie in my video and posters. I guess wearing that tie, along with naturally tucking my shirt in, gave me a professional, easy to recognize, image. It was bitter work but I managed to do it!

But if I had to pin point the exact moment when I instantly won would be two days ago. My adversary who was leading the charge decided to do an instagram story sticker q&a. I thought it was pretty smart, but as time went on I noticed a pattern in the way he answers things: "yes that's a big issue! We'll make it a priority! It really sucks, I hate it too!" There was just something about the vague, interchangeable way he answered things that really didn't sit well in my stomach. Then, a friend of mine asked me a rather personal question about my position on a the mental health of students in the school. (This particular student I presume deals with depression but he's also a fucking gigantic memer so I can never tell if he's serious or not. It's like when someone jokes about shooting up the school and you don't know whether to laugh or call the police.) I took his question very seriously, wrote like a whole paragraph about ideas that I had so far to fix it, how teachers should build a closer relationship with failing students, and how I admittedly was not the greatest person to weigh in on such a sensitive topic but I was willing to listen for hours about his (and students like him) struggle, because that's what I HAVE been doing for the past 2 weeks, listening to students! He told me he asked my adversary the same thing and they said "I don't know." I didn't want to say anything but the other guy is clearly doing this for a good mark on his college app. I did an instagram q&a after that, knowing I would get flack for "copying" him. But I'm so glad I did, whenever someone asked a question I took it seriously and wrote a detailed explanation of my thoughts and ideals. I got messages saying how they were glad I was willing to open up solutions rather than just promising the world. I got messages critiquing my ideals, and taking the discussion even further, building a more solid plan.

I'm so glad I won. I can't wait to at least try to make an impact in the school.

I'm like really sorry for writing that insanely long message, I don't know I just felt like I had to vent.
