For mana, an ok way to farm them is to do the gold daily and keep going to the middle area where the rare enemy can spawn and exit/repeat til you find it (I'd say once out of 5 runs, which kinda sucks). Since giving up doesn't penalize you outside time, this is an ok way to go about it. I've found you get 800 mana per rare enemy, though some videos seem to show you can get up to 1500.
